Zemyna-Inspired Holiday Gift Set: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Salvita Bingelyte's Award-Winning Design Fuses Lithuanian Mythology with Contemporary Aesthetics

Salvita Bingelyte's holiday gift set includes a chocolate bar, herbal tea package, a jar of natural honey, and a cinnamon-scented candle. The design is a tribute to Zemyna, the earth goddess who, in Lithuanian mythology, is known for her fertility and protection of those who love and care for nature. The goddess is represented as a Christmas fairy, passing through uncovered fields, magically ripening fruit, and inspiring life.

The design is unique in its modern representation of the earth goddess. Zemyna is depicted as cool and hip, wearing sneakers and headphones, symbolizing the newest generation that respects the past but is the future. This juxtaposition of tradition and modernity is a key strength of the design, making it stand out from other holiday gift sets.

The packaging design was realized using offset, flexography, and digital printing. The natural color palette reflects the purity of the product ingredients, and the unconventional combination of chocolate with bread and honey adds an interesting twist to the gift set. The design also subtly hints at traditional Christmas symbols, such as Santa's beard, snow, and reindeers, through the goddess's long white hair.

The design project, which started in July and finished in November 2019, was carried out in Vilnius, Lithuania. The design process involved overcoming creative challenges, including creating a strong and positive illustration. After three months of creating numerous illustrations and changing the goddess and the colors, a pleasing visual juxtaposition between serenity and excitement was achieved.

The holiday gift set design was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2020. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Salvita Bingelyte's design, admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
