Pin Something To Savor: A Fusion of Design and Taste

RCS Ruth Chao Studio's Innovative Approach to Cookie Packaging

Pin Something To Savor is a unique cookie brand that merges design and taste, creating a visual and gastronomic experience. The brand's innovative packaging, designed by RCS Ruth Chao Studio, has won the prestigious Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2020.

The concept behind Pin Something To Savor is rooted in the brand's name. 'PIN', in Chinese, is written as ‘品’, which translates to 'to savor'. The character intriguingly resembles three stacked cubes, much like building blocks. This playful quality is central to the brand's identity. RCS Ruth Chao Studio ingeniously designed the English name ‘PIN’ into the Chinese name ‘品’, creating a logo that merges linguistic boundaries to read simultaneously in both languages.

The brand offers eight unique cookie flavors, each with its own whimsically illustrated packaging. The designs extend the building blocks concept, with ingredients taking center stage in a burst of color and vibrancy. When displayed in-store, the box packaging is arranged in groups of three cubes, always two at the bottom and one at the top, resembling the brand name ‘品’.

The packaging is not just visually appealing, but also tactile. Each box is printed with 2 pantones and CMYK, with gloss lamination applied. The logo is screen-printed in white, and embossed patterns adorn the sides of the box, adding a textural touch. The designs are mounted on cardboard to form a sturdy cubical box, with a drawer that slides open.

Creating such vibrant packaging was not without its challenges. The team had to experiment with different paper qualities and printing possibilities to achieve the desired brightness and saturation. The end result was to use gloss lamination to best bring out the luminosity of the ink.

Pin Something To Savor is a testament to the power of design in enhancing a product's appeal. The brand's innovative approach to packaging, combining whimsical illustrations with a playful concept, has not only won them the Silver A' Packaging Design Award but also set a new standard in the world of cookie packaging.

As consumers, we are reminded that the act of savoring is not just about taste, but also about appreciating the design and thought that goes into the product. Pin Something To Savor invites us to do just that - to savor every aspect of the product, from the unique flavors to the innovative packaging.
