Xuzhou International: A Unique Academic Center

Combining Cultural Elements to Create a Sense of Community

This plan combines the Xuzhou Han culture, uses the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the Maritime Silk Road as the design inspiration for space design, extracts local cultural landscape elements, vessel elements, and Han cultural elements, and applies them in various space designs through evolution and innovation. And realized the exchange of emotions and culture.

Gather core values and create a new sense of community connection and belonging for leisure travelers, business people, and local residents. Xuzhou International, designed by Yi Shi, is an academic center that integrates art, architecture, design, innovation, and technology. The project covers a total of 78,000 square meters and is located in Xuzhou.

The guest rooms in Xuzhou International are designed to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere. By adopting the concept of natural colors and a warm home, the design ensures that the classic concept is integrated with the local characteristics. This integration goes beyond mere formality, allowing visitors to experience the cultural background and natural tranquility of Xuzhou.

The all-day dining room in Xuzhou International is a flexible and changeable combination space. With warm wood colors, natural textures of stone, and fresh and bright accents, the dining environment is comfortable and inviting. The design aims to create a prosperous scene of Chinese and foreign exchanges and trade, reflecting the city's warm hospitality and pleasure.

The banquet center in Xuzhou International focuses on "gathering, communication, and sharing" as its design center idea. The irregular shape of the space walls not only allows for flexible combinations but also reflects its majestic presence. This design aims to build a common system of economic integration and cultural inclusion.

Modern modeling and simple texture complement each other in Xuzhou International. The space seamlessly integrates ancient, modern, and foreign elements, showcasing the integration and development of culture. The design also takes into account the diverse functional requirements, ensuring that the space not only meets its functional needs but also embodies the local characteristics, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the cultural background.

The design of Xuzhou International faced challenges in interpenetrating the top structure and the wall partitions. However, these challenges were overcome by extracting elements from traditional culture and expressing them with modern cognition. This approach allowed the space to carry new culture and create a new aesthetic order.

In the lobby space of Xuzhou International, the design applied lifting equipment from the "five province thoroughfare" port, orderly arrangements of containers, and cargo holds for stacking goods. These elements symbolize the exchange of material culture and spiritual culture, perfectly embodying the concept of "the art of gathering" advocated by Sheraton's new norms.

Xuzhou International, designed by Yi Shi, has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
