Wonderland: A Landscape Installation by Sammy Liu - Golden Eagle

Creating a Utopian Island of Harmony and Balance

Inspired by the vibrant colors of a rainbow, Wonderland is a magnificent landscape installation that transports visitors to a utopian island of wonder and imagination. Designed by Sammy Liu of Golden Eagle, this unique project combines art, architecture, and environmental consciousness to create a harmonious and balanced urban jungle.

Located in Beimen Visitor Center, Tainan City, Taiwan, Wonderland is a post-modern representation of a human society that values environmental protection. The installation features concrete and steel structures that coexist with nature, symbolizing the delicate balance between man-made architecture and the preservation of our natural surroundings.

At the heart of the installation is a sapling, representing humanity's commitment to environmental values. As the tree grows, it will eventually provide shelter for visitors, further emphasizing the connection between architecture and the environment. This integration of man-made structures and nature takes the concept of environmental protection to new heights.

The construction of Wonderland was realized through precise structural design using the simplest triangle rules. The interlocked tunnel space was created using concrete pouring techniques and soil alkalization separation. This process ensures the connection between the central area and the surrounding land, allowing for the tree's growth and the preservation of the environment.

Wonderland is not only a visual spectacle but also an interactive experience. During the daytime, the installation serves as a recreational space for entertainment and relaxation. Visitors can enjoy the shade of the tree and explore the unique architecture styled with ladders and tunnels. At night, the installation comes alive with LED lights, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere in the grassland.

Sammy Liu collaborated with various entities and design teams to bring Wonderland to life. The Southwest Coast National Scenic Area Administration, Taiwan Tourism Bureau, Golden Eagle International Lighting & Engineering Co., Ltd., HTLD Optical Art Aesthetics Design Co., Ltd., and LAAB Architects all played a crucial role in the realization of this project.

Wonderland has garnered recognition in the design community and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges the project's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.

With its unique blend of art, architecture, and environmental consciousness, Wonderland invites visitors to explore a utopian island where the boundaries between man-made structures and nature blur. It is a testament to the power of design to create harmony and balance in our urban landscapes.
