Park Zoo Hotel: A Design Masterpiece by Xiang Li

Blending Art, Innovation, and Animal Advocacy in Hotel Design

Enter the world of Park Zoo Hotel, a unique design project by Xiang Li that marries the worlds of art, architecture, and animal advocacy. This award-winning hotel design not only provides a luxurious stay for guests but also serves as a thought-provoking art installation that raises awareness about endangered animals.

Xiang Li's inspiration for the Park Zoo Hotel stems from the increasing number of endangered animals. The designer envisioned a space that would serve dual purposes: a unique, innovative hotel and a platform for public interest. The result is a hotel that is not just a place to stay, but a call for love and attention towards the plight of endangered animals.

The Park Zoo Hotel stands out from other designs due to its integration of structure, streamline, color, and graphics, all of which contribute to the elegant temperament of the space. The minimalist patterns of abstract nature complete the background vision, creating a quiet and minimalist backdrop that evokes the feeling of visiting an art gallery. This approach aims to make a good time stop and become a more valuable memory for the consumers.

The realization of the design was made possible through the use of 3D printing technology to create realistic animal models, building a different animal kingdom for consumers. The design also incorporates elements reflecting the violation of animal rights in human society, such as biopharmaceuticals and Cat Shit coffee, to trigger people's thinking and exploration of animal protection.

The project, which spans a floor area of 18,000 sqm, was completed in December 2018 in Hangzhou, China. The design team, led by Xiang Li and Project Director Fan Chen, faced the challenge of integrating animal welfare projects in a commercial hotel setting. They had to consider whether consumers would accept such information and whether it could generate profits for the hotel.

Despite the challenges, the Park Zoo Hotel has been recognized for its innovative design and advocacy, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This award is granted to extraordinary creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, advance art, science, design, and technology, and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.

The Park Zoo Hotel is more than just a hotel based on the animal theme. It is an art exhibition that allows customers to observe and feel the real situation facing endangered animals. This unique approach to hotel design showcases Xiang Li's deep love for animals and his desire to use design as a platform to raise awareness about their plight.
