TOKI to TOKI: A Japanese Traditional Hotel

Embracing Japanese Elegance and Tranquility

This newly opened ryokan is perfectly situated in the heart of the Kinosaki onsen district, just a stone's throw away from the station. Despite its recent establishment, TOKI to TOKI seamlessly blends into its surroundings, exuding a timeless charm that suggests it has stood along the river for generations.

The name TOKI to TOKI, written in Chinese characters, translates to "season and time." It embodies the designers' vision of creating a space where guests can simply revel in the ever-changing seasons while time passes slowly. The first-floor lobby sets the tone with its open and inviting atmosphere, featuring a self-service food area where guests can savor delicious cuisine and engage in meaningful conversations with fellow visitors.

Randomly placed throughout the lobby are mushroom-like stools, offering guests the opportunity to cherish their personal space or enjoy moments of solitude. These stools are upholstered with the exquisite Nishijin textile, designed by Jotaro SAITO, adding a touch of luxury to the communal area. The geometrically shaped tatami floor, specially crafted for this project, creates a mesmerizing pattern of lights inspired by the gentle ripples of a river and the shade of a willow tree that graces the hotel's facade. Together, these elements cultivate a magical yet serene ambiance.

The guest rooms at TOKI to TOKI boast unique bed backboards, each inspired by the beauty found in Japanese culture. From mizuhiki decorations to Japanese pine trees and the moon, these intricately designed backboards pay homage to the country's rich heritage.

Ascending to the third floor, guests are greeted by a bar space adorned with a magnificent, organic-shaped sofa. In collaboration with textile designer Jotaro SAITO, the designers have lavishly incorporated his Nishijin textile, creating a high-backed sofa that leaves a lasting impression. The bar area becomes an unforgettable and visually striking focal point.

The TOKI to TOKI project was a collaborative effort, with lead designer Akitoshi Imafuku at the helm. The design team also included Kenken Murakami, lighting designer Masanobu Takeishi, kimono textile provider SANSAI, and various other contributors who played a vital role in bringing this vision to life.

Located in Kinosaki, Hyogo, the project commenced on August 1, 2019, and reached completion on December 29, 2019.
