Siete7: A Provocative Bar and Restaurant Design

Creating a Spatial Dialogue in Shaoxing

Hong Kong-based architecture and interior design practice, O and O Studio Ltd, has recently completed the design of Siete7, a unique seafood restaurant and bar located in the Yuecheng District of Shaoxing. This innovative design aims to establish a spatial dialogue between co-existing food and beverage spaces, making it the first of its kind in the Eastern China province.

O and O Studio drew inspiration from the concept of concurrence and synchronicity, placing the Siete7 Bar at the center as the principal element. On either side of the bar, the formal dining space and casual drinking area create a transitional space that encourages interaction and dialogue among different functions.

The formal dining area, which can accommodate approximately 24 customers, features a circular stainless steel and mirror feature that echoes the Siete7 logo, also designed by O and O Studio. On the opposite side, the drinking area is furnished with high tables and seating, leading to a VIP intimate space with a wavy wall lining, mirror finish ceiling, and a mesmerizing jellyfish tank, providing an immersive experience for customers.

The 160sqm space is centered around a flowing stainless steel ceiling that subtly shimmers above the bar. The pink earthy stone texture and copper stainless steel bar top add a touch of femininity, creating a clear yet gentle spatial statement. The inverted shimmering cloud extends spatially onto both sides, with burgundy red and beige bands of hand-made tiles sitting on a diagonally placed flanders weave pattern of stone tiles.

Siete7 originally occupied two separate units, but the owner acquired them to elongate the frontage and create a semi-open style with a dynamic atmosphere that evolves throughout the day. O and O Studio made a bold move by placing a simple yet functional kitchen as a long back-of-house room at the rear, determining the overall spatial configuration and freeing up the entire frontage.

The project, which started in December 2021, was completed in March 2022 in Shaoxing, PRC. The design of Siete7 was a result of extensive research and creative problem-solving. Despite the challenges posed by the low ceiling height and the need to open up the frontage, O and O Studio successfully created a flow of functional spaces that meet the client's needs while maintaining the unique identity of each space.

Siete7 is a hidden gem in the Yuecheng District, offering a provocative and slightly mysterious interior that contrasts with its unassuming facade. This design has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022, showcasing its outstanding creativity and resourcefulness.
