Suspended and Transparent: A Unique Commercial Office Space Design

Creating a Distinctive Commercial Space with New Possibilities

Inspired by the conflicts between quality materials and visuals, designer Shi Zhe Lo presents a commercial office space that challenges traditional design norms and constructs a distinctive environment with new possibilities.

This design project, aptly named "Suspended and Transparent," showcases the aesthetic concept of architectural space to create a profound and visually striking commercial office. The designer's intention is to outline the user's spiritual taste and elevate the overall experience.

The uniqueness of this design lies in its ability to balance conflicting elements. The wooden grille on the exterior can be manually rotated to adjust indoor airflow and guide natural light into the space. Surrounding the interior with stone creates a sense of solidity, while the natural cypress ceiling adds a touch of warmth and liveliness. The inclusion of green walls injects a sense of nature, balancing the original coldness of the materials. The scent of cypress further adds to the sensory experience, creating a delightful conflict between vision and taste.

With a project size of 80 square meters, the design team meticulously planned and arranged the space layout to meet the specific needs of the owners. The office area, meeting area, and negotiation area were accurately divided, and materials such as stone, iron, and gray mirrors were carefully selected to create a staggered effect. However, the desire for transparency led to the use of exterior wall glass, iron, and wood as grilles, resulting in a visually transparent cube-like structure that offers a seamless connection between the interior and exterior.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was the limited space layout and arrangement. Despite this constraint, the team successfully created a well-defined and functional space that met the client's requirements. The use of different materials and the incorporation of transparent elements allowed for a sense of openness and transparency, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.

Environmental consciousness was also a key consideration in this design. The panels used in the project were carefully selected to conform to ecological standards, with a production process that avoids the need to cut down large trees. Instead, reclaimed wood was utilized, aligning with the principles of natural environmental protection and pollution-free characteristics.

The "Suspended and Transparent" design project was completed in July 2020 in Taichung, Taiwan. The innovative approach and attention to detail garnered recognition, and the design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
