Alpha Series: A Compact and Innovative Shaver for Men

Providing Hygienic and Joyful User Experience

The main inspiration behind the Alpha Series was to provide a hygienic and joyful user experience. The design language draws from Scandinavian design principles, which emphasize clean lines, minimalism, and functionality. By combining these elements with easy user interaction, the Alpha Series sets a new standard for shavers.

What sets the Alpha Series apart from other shavers is its compact size and innovative features. Designed to handle basic tasks for facial care, this shaver is perfect for those who value convenience and efficiency. Additionally, the Alpha Series offers hygienic solutions with its innovative approach, ensuring a clean and tidy experience.

The Alpha Series is made using a combination of high-quality materials and advanced manufacturing techniques. The shaver body is crafted from Xenoy (PBT+PC) using injection molding, while the shaver rubber is made from Santoprene using double injection. The case, case lid, and tools are also made using injection molding, with materials such as Xenoy and PP.

Technical specifications of the Alpha Series include a shaver size of 55mm (max) x 30mm (max) x 150mm (max) and a case size of 65mm (max) x 50mm (max) x 135mm (max). These dimensions make the Alpha Series compact and travel-friendly, perfect for those on the go.

The interaction with the Alpha Series is simple and intuitive. The shaver features a single button covered by an LED light, which serves as the interaction point. This button turns the device on/off, while the LED light provides feedback about the battery. When fully charged and ready to use, the LED light shines white. When the battery is running low, the LED light turns red. Additionally, the LED light blinks in red when the shaver is off charge.

The Alpha Series also comes with a dock that serves multiple purposes. The dock is designed for charging the shaver and cleaning the tips, which are supported with UV light inside the storage section. The tips can be easily taken off the shaver and placed in the storage section, ensuring a clean and tidy experience.

The Alpha Series project started in May 2019 in Istanbul, Turkey, and lasted until the end of June 2019. Extensive research was conducted to identify existing problems with shavers and understand consumer demands. Trend analysis and focus groups with men aged between 18-50 were conducted to gather valuable insights.

Despite the challenges faced during the sketch ideation process, Mert Ali Bukulmez successfully refined the design and created a unique, minimal, and simple form solution for the Alpha Series. The result is a shaver that not only meets professional and industrial requirements but also provides fulfillment and positive feelings to users.

The Alpha Series is copyrighted by Arcelik Group, 2019. This design has also been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in the Beauty, Personal Care, and Cosmetic Products Design category in 2020. The Iron A' Design Award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
