Eastern Garden: A Fusion of Art and Landscape Design

Hsu Fu Chu's Award-Winning Design Merges Eastern Aesthetics with Modern Innovation

In the realm of landscape design, Hsu Fu Chu's Eastern Garden stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of traditional Eastern aesthetics and modern innovation. This design, awarded Silver in A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2020, embodies a unique fusion of art, architecture, and nature.

The Eastern Garden, as the name suggests, draws inspiration from Eastern garden design principles. It incorporates elements such as layered views, enframed scenery, and a winding path leading to a secluded spot. These elements not only enhance the visual appeal of the space but also create an intriguing detour traffic flow, securing the privacy of the residences in the community.

One of the unique features of this design is the stainless-steel sculpture, Water Cloud. Depending on the viewer's angle, the sculpture creates different reflections and interactions, adding depth to the spatial experience. This dynamic interaction between the viewer and the sculpture brings out the profoundness of the sentimental fun, a characteristic feature of Eastern aesthetics.

The design realization of the Eastern Garden is a marvel in itself. The use of floor-to-ceiling windows, resembling a jewel, intensifies the reflections of the Water Cloud sculpture. This not only creates an extensive pool landscape and a broad sense of indoor space but also spawns an artistic atmosphere akin to an art museum. The design further employs lights and shadows to create a delicate conceptual visual with multiple layers.

The Eastern Garden is more than just a beautiful space; it is also an ecological habitat. The diverse plants create an invigorating environment that is friendly to living beings. The design concept of an ecological island connects the garden to nearby ecological parks, enhancing biodiversity and increasing opportunities for biological migration.

Despite the challenges posed by the local climate, the design successfully incorporates native trees suitable for southern Taiwan. The calm allure of the pool in the forecourt adjusts the microclimate, decreasing the effect of the urban heat island. The public artwork adds a sense of artistic ambiance, while the elegant arbors and diverse plants provide great views, breeze, and sunlight.

In conclusion, Hsu Fu Chu's Eastern Garden is a masterpiece that beautifully merges art, architecture, and nature. It is a testament to the designer's ability to incorporate traditional Eastern aesthetics into modern design, creating a space that is not only visually appealing but also ecologically friendly. This award-winning design serves as an inspiration for future innovations in landscape design.
