Ancestral Hall Landscape

This project stands out for its emphasis on preserving the cultural heritage of the Lingnan area. Ancestral halls are the heart of family blood ties in villages, and the Vanke Hakka Culture Exhibition Plaza pays homage to this tradition. By treating the ancestral hall as a cultural entity and a reflection of historical features, the design ensures the continuity and authenticity of the ancestral hall culture.

Modern technologies are employed to enhance the spatial experience of the plaza. The gable element landscape walls combine the charm of Lingnan architecture with contemporary techniques, creating a dynamic visual journey as visitors move through the space. When illuminated in the evening, the landscape walls emit a soft glow that interacts with the starry lights, enveloping the plaza in a magical ambiance.

The landscape spatial layout is meticulously crafted, gradually unfolding from the inside to the outside. The design cleverly incorporates Lingnan cultural elements, such as gable walls, bucket arches, blue flagstones, black bricks, tiles, oyster walls, farm tools, Lingnan carving patterns, and glaze mosaics, seamlessly blending them into the landscape design.

The Vanke Hakka Culture Exhibition Plaza, completed in December 2019 in Shenzhen, serves as an outdoor promotion carrier for Hakka culture. It not only enhances the environment but also provides a city square for citizens to relax and engage with their heritage. The project successfully resolves the conflict between tradition and modernity, creating a space that celebrates the past while embracing the present.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Vanke Hakka Culture Exhibition Plaza exemplifies these qualities, contributing to the improvement of quality of life and making the world a better place.
