The Cube: A Refreshing Twist on Nail Spa Design

Creating a Playful and Modern Space for The Cube Nail Lab

The Cube Nail Lab, located at 883 Bay Street, Toronto, is redefining the nail spa experience with its unique and refreshing design. Designed by Zoe Lee, this nail spa stands out from the crowd with its playful yet modern aesthetic.

The concept behind The Cube Nail Lab draws inspiration from the iconic Rubik's Cube. The tiled grid serves as a guide for the entrance area, where the pattern seamlessly flows at each corner, creating a visually captivating experience. The use of a pastel color palette, coupled with the pink tile, evokes a simple, ordered, yet playful space.

One of the standout features of The Cube Nail Lab is its interior design. The walls, floor, and ceiling are covered in a continuous ceramic tile pattern, creating a cohesive and visually striking environment. The choice of pink as the main color gives the space a refreshing and distinctive look, setting it apart from the typical glossy and glamorous images associated with nail spas.

The interior space of The Cube Nail Lab has been carefully designed around its branding colors. Copper finishes have been incorporated to create a warm and cozy atmosphere, adding a touch of modernity to the overall design.

The design of The Cube Nail Lab is not only visually appealing but also functional. The space operates like a typical nail salon, with a central table for nail services and a bank of pedicure chairs. The main reception desk, although discreet and miniature in size, features the distinct tile pattern that represents the essence of the brand. This pattern can also be seen on the floor and walls, creating a strong visual pull for customers and passersby.

The Cube Nail Lab is a classic example of how aesthetics and functionality can seamlessly integrate to elevate the performance of a product. The attention to detail in the design, from the choice of materials to the layout of the space, creates an inviting and enjoyable experience for customers.

The Cube Nail Lab project started in December 2017 and was completed in June 2018 in Toronto. Throughout the design process, the team faced the challenge of connecting the 4x4 inch and 8x8 inch tiles from the walls to the floor and counter. However, with careful planning and execution, they were able to overcome this challenge and bring the Rubik's Cube-inspired design to life.

The Cube Nail Lab has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.

With its unique design and attention to detail, The Cube Nail Lab offers a refreshing twist on the traditional nail spa experience. It is a space that combines aesthetics, functionality, and branding to create a truly memorable and enjoyable environment for customers.
