In many Chinese cities, the rapid development has led to a homogeneity in the design of residential buildings. House of Dream seeks to break away from this monotony and remind people of the diverse and warm memories associated with home. By integrating lighting as an essential part of artistic expression, this sculpture creates a poetic dwelling that resonates with viewers on both a visual and spiritual level.
The sculpture, measuring 320cm in width, 120cm in depth, and 400cm in height, is made using stainless steel, LED lights, and a PC sheet with a one-way mirror. During the day, it reflects the surrounding environment, acting as a protective shell for family and community. As night falls, the lighting effects transform the sculpture, extending the space infinitely and leading viewers into the depths of their hearts and souls.
House of Dream not only serves as a work of art but also interacts with people, changing the lighting effects and creating an immersive experience. The use of new materials and lighting technology presented several challenges during the design process. The team had to carefully consider the different effects the sculpture would have during the day and at night, ensuring a seamless integration of lighting and sculpture.
The project was displayed at the ShenZhen International Art Exhibition in May 2020, where it garnered attention and appreciation for its innovative approach to public art. House of Dream was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes the sculpture's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
House of Dream, with its unique blend of art, architecture, and technology, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of individuality and diversity in our living spaces. Through the interplay of light and sculpture, it invites viewers to explore their own memories of home and find solace in the warmth and poetry of the past.
