The collection stands out for its use of a bespoke software, MovISee, which generates designs based on body movement. This digital-analogue method allows for the creation of asymmetrical and non-repeat patterns, a departure from traditional methods such as mirroring or rotating. The result is a collection of scarves with unique patterns, digitally printed onto pure wool, a material choice that sets the collection apart from most luxury scarf designers who typically use silk.
Cho's team includes co-director Jamie Gilham, software developers Yen-Ling Kuo and Yen-Ting Yeh, brand assistant Chien Chia Chi, and design assistant Darren Lee. Together, they have created a collection that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. The scarves, with their asymmetrical and unique colour combinations, can be worn in various ways, reflecting individual expression and fitting different fashion needs and occasions.
The collection, which started in 2018 in London, was inspired by New York City's eclectic culture and architecture. The team began by researching ideas and colour-ways, gathering visual data, and experimenting with the software to create new pattern designs specifically for this collection. The scarves are retailed and exhibited internationally.
The creation of the collection was not without challenges. The team had to find a way to combine computing power and body movement to create unique patterns that retain the detail and spontaneity of body movement. They also had to ensure that the patterns reveal the authorship of the designer, rather than being wholly dictated by the software.
Despite these challenges, the collection has been recognized for its innovation and creativity. It was awarded Silver in A' Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design Award in 2021, a testament to the team's outstanding expertise and innovation.
