Yearning For Art: A Modern and Artistic Residence

Creating a Fusion of Art and Daily Life Aesthetics

Inspired by the metaphysical connection between space and site, designer Yan Ru Chen has transformed a 55-ping space in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, into a modern and artistic residence. With a focus on simplicity and the use of low chromatic colors, this design creates a visual context that extends from the inside out, inviting residents to immerse themselves in a state of daily life aesthetics.

The unique feature of this design lies in its "black white gray" color system, which not only evokes visual perception but also relieves stress. By combining pure residential elements with a touch of "commercial space," the design team has successfully highlighted the theme of the guest house. The space is carefully laid out with artistic and pleasurable perspectives, utilizing materials such as stone surfaces, metal, rusted surfaces, and wooden louvers to create a rich visual layer and transform the walls into three-dimensional works of art.

The realization of this design is made possible through the use of special paint, marble-like tiles, rust-copper tile sheets, titanium-plated sheets, and wooden louvers. The design team has skillfully interpreted the causal relationship between space and people, consciously expressing the diversity of forms through visible media, lines, and light and shadow. This integration of aesthetics and life creates a spiritual environment that resonates deeply with the site of the project.

The design specifications for this residence cater to the client's frequent hosting of guests. The public area, which includes the living room, dining room, and kitchen island, is open and spacious, allowing for smooth and comfortable circulation. A long table with multiple seats in the dining room showcases the client's hospitality. Glass sliding doors between the public and private areas not only add a touch of mystery to the space but also provide personal privacy and security.

With crossing beams in the public area covered in titanium-plated metal, the design team has framed exquisite interior views and created a longitudinal visual extension through the use of black and white stacked ceiling layers. The result is a design that not only functions seamlessly but also captivates the eye.

Located in the Gushan District of Kaohsiung City, this project is deeply influenced by the artistic aesthetics of the surrounding area. The design team has successfully extended the urban context from the inside out, creating a fusion of art and daily life aesthetics. The result is a modern and artistic residence that embodies the codes of modernization, diversity, and openness that define the city.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This award celebrates designs that exhibit outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Yearning For Art residence contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
