The Dreamer Base: A High-End Industrial-Style Residence

Creating a Space for Young, Dynamic Youth

For being more independent, the client communicated with his parents so as to moving out from the house that he used to live with them which not only means his self-responsibility but also a new turning point in life. The young client who majors in Film and have just finished overseas study, therefore, the designer wanted to build a place where he could chase his dream without holding back.

The Dreamer Base, designed by Chia Hsin Chi, is a unique and sophisticated residence that combines the fashionable industrial style with elements of nostalgia. The client, a young filmmaker, desired a space where he could pursue his dreams and express his creativity freely. The design not only integrates the ideas of two generations but also incorporates Feng Shui principles, reflecting the client's beliefs.

One of the standout features of The Dreamer Base is the red brick wall in the main bedroom. This rough industrial-style element adds a touch of character and reflects the client's personal taste. To create a nostalgic ambiance, the designer used a dry cloth dabbing technique to paint the walls, resulting in a textured and visually appealing effect.

The lighting choices in The Dreamer Base were carefully curated to complement the overall industrial style. The main living room features a white handmade chandelier from France, designed by Serge Mouille. Its neat and modest style perfectly aligns with the client's preferences. Other lamps, such as desk lamps and rack lighting, were selected in black to maintain a cohesive tone throughout the space.

The layout of The Dreamer Base was designed to accommodate the client's needs. The spacious living room and dining room provide ample space for entertaining and socializing. An open study area was created to facilitate discussions and idea-sharing with coworkers. Additionally, a writable bookshelf door was installed, allowing the young director to jot down his ideas and thoughts.

The color scheme of The Dreamer Base revolves around concrete grey, which is consistent with the original ceiling. The walls and floors were painted in this hue to maintain a cohesive and harmonious look. The designer also took great care in ensuring that the ceiling was protected with a special paint to prevent any dust from falling.

Designing The Dreamer Base presented several challenges, including coordinating the aesthetic differences between the two generations and incorporating the advice of Feng Shui experts. However, the designer successfully navigated these challenges while respecting the client's vision. The construction of the galvanized steel beams and columns in front of the entry required precise measurements to seamlessly fit the two steel plates, creating a seamless extension of the industrial style.

The Dreamer Base is located at the intersection of Guangfu South Road and Ren'ai Road, in the center of the East District. The project was completed within a specified timeframe, showcasing the designer's efficiency and attention to detail.

The Dreamer Base was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of the design, which combines art, science, and technology to enhance the quality of life.

The Dreamer Base is not just a residence; it is a testament to the client's dreams and aspirations. By seamlessly blending the industrial style with modern amenities and thoughtful design elements, Chia Hsin Chi has created a high-end space that is both stylish and functional.
