Revolutionizing Packaging: Landscape by JiaXin Qiu

Award-Winning Gift Box Design Blends Eastern and Western Cultures

JiaXin Qiu's Landscape is not just a gift box, but an art piece. Inspired by the challenging times of 2020, Qiu chose to incorporate brighter colors and soft lines to create a relaxing and spectacular scenery. The design features elements of waves, Chinese mountains, and the moon, forming a picturesque image. A rabbit running in the sea, a character from Chinese mythology, adds a touch of whimsy to the design.

The Landscape gift box is unique in its use of traditional Chinese color "Danxia" for the mountains, a departure from the usual green or gray. The design is also functional, with drawers at the bottom of the box to hold moon cakes, and additional drawers within the three-dimensional scene for knives and forks. The box is a testament to Qiu's ability to blend form and function seamlessly.

The creation of Landscape involved dividing a 3D scene into 2D slices, each arranged at the same distance from near to far to form a unique visual effect. The material used is simple - paper. The paper is printed into a picture, and the details of the pattern are engraved by laser. This innovative approach to packaging design showcases Qiu's commitment to sustainability and cost-effectiveness.

The project, completed in Shanghai in July 2020, was not without its challenges. Qiu aimed to create a gift box that offered impressive visual effects from all angles, which meant the scene presented by the box had no boundaries. After experimenting with various materials, including resin and glass, Qiu finally settled on paper.

The Landscape gift box is a testament to Qiu's ability to draw inspiration from diverse cultures and art forms. It represents a fusion of Western oil painting colors and the shapes of Chinese mountains. This design, which uses multiple 2D picture slices to form a 3D scene, is a creative expression of the differences and commonalities of Eastern and Western cultures.

In recognition of its innovation and creativity, Landscape was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and that introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. Landscape, with its blend of art, culture, and functionality, is a deserving recipient of this accolade.
