PCOS is a common hormonal disorder that affects women during their childbearing years. Shockingly, nearly 70% of women with PCOS worldwide are not diagnosed in time due to neglect. Recognizing this issue, Monica was created to bridge the gap and provide much-needed support to these women.
What sets Monica apart is its use of artificial intelligence technology. The app simulates the role of a girlfriend, offering personalized guidance and knowledge related to PCOS. Through conversational AI, Monica interacts with users in a natural and friendly manner, making the digital experience more human and tailored to the needs of women.
Monica encourages women to face their condition, guiding them to actively adjust their lifestyles and pay attention to their endocrine system health. By providing customized treatment guidance based on personal information, Monica helps users strengthen their exercise routines, establish regular work and rest patterns, plan a healthy diet, and take medication on time.
Furthermore, Monica fosters a sense of community among its users. Women can share their experiences, offer support, and encourage each other through the app's community feature. This creates a safe and empowering space for women with PCOS to connect and find solace in their shared journey.
The design team, which includes Muling Huang, Xintong Li, Pitchayapat Sonchaeng, Lingyan Zhang, Yue Hao, Yingqiao Chen, Ying Zhou, and Xiaoqing Wang, conducted extensive research to ensure that Monica provides both physical and psychological support. They consulted medical professionals, interviewed patients, and delved into the true needs and psychological states of their target users.
Creating a friendly, trustworthy, and empathetic role for Monica was a challenge that the design team successfully overcame. They aimed to strike a balance between providing humanized and customized support while respecting the autonomy and privacy of the users. The result is an app that offers guidance without overly interfering in the lives of patients.
The Monica app was developed for both iOS and Android platforms, catering to various screen sizes. The initial version was designed specifically for the iPhone 11 Pro, with a screen size of 1242px x 2688px and a resolution of 458 ppi.
The project, which took place in China, started in July 2020 and was completed in September 2020. Throughout the process, the design team continuously sought feedback from users to optimize and improve the app. This iterative approach ensured that Monica version 1.0 effectively met the needs of women with PCOS.
Monica's innovative design and its impact on women's health have been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Mobile Technologies, Applications, and Software Design category in 2021. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.
Monica is not just an app; it is a powerful tool that empowers women with PCOS to take control of their health, seek treatment, and embrace a better life. Through its use of artificial intelligence and its supportive community, Monica is revolutionizing female health care and making a positive impact on the lives of women worldwide.
