Reimagining Everyday Materials into High Fashion

Bingrou Chen, the creative mind behind the Cocle Collection, was inspired by the desire to make fashion accessible to all. The high cost and the social etiquette of not repeating outfits often deter many from indulging in their love for beautiful dresses. Chen's vision was to find materials from daily life and convert them into high fashion using an easy weaving technique. This approach makes fashion creation a possibility for everyone, not just professionals.

The Cocle Collection stands out for its unique use of materials and techniques. The entire collection is made from rubber rings using a new weaving technique suitable for annular materials. This process does not harm the structure of the rubber rings, allowing them to be reused. The technique does not require professional tools or skills, making it accessible to anyone.

The collection was brought to life using a ring structure material weaving technique. Unlike traditional weaving that uses linear materials, this new process is suitable for rubber rings or other ring materials. The technique does not break the ring structure, ensuring that all rubber rings can be reused. This innovative approach to weaving is a testament to Chen's commitment to sustainability and creativity.

The Cocle Collection consists of five womenswear looks, all in size 4. The designs feature a unique blend of fashion design, new material usage, weaving process, and green design. The collection is not just a testament to Chen's innovative approach to fashion design but also a statement on sustainability and accessibility in the fashion industry.

The project was initiated in February 2020 in Guangzhou and completed in September 2020. The design aims to blur the boundaries between "clothing" and "non-clothing" materials, exploring new possibilities in fashion design. Chen believes that the exploration and application of new materials are crucial, and these materials can be found in everyday life. The Cocle Collection is not just a line of garments but a work of art that inspires.

The Cocle Collection faced several challenges, the most significant being the application of non-clothing materials into textiles and converting them into wearable designs. Finding and applying these materials was also a challenging task. However, Chen overcame these obstacles by creatively combining these materials through a handmade weaving process.

The Cocle Collection was awarded Silver in the A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to designs that exhibit outstanding expertise and innovation, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. The Cocle Collection's recognition is a testament to Bingrou Chen's innovative and sustainable approach to fashion design.
