Tea Yard: A Tranquil Teahouse Blending Tradition and Nature

In the process of designing the Tea Yard, Jus Tian carefully considered the relationship between each space box and the surrounding vegetation courtyard. Rejecting the conventional "surrounded" or "island" layout, the designer opted for a third form, spreading the space boxes throughout the garden. This innovative approach allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the natural landscape and experience the relaxation that comes with being surrounded by greenery.

The Tea Yard embraces a simple yet detailed design, using a color palette dominated by blue, gray, and brown tones. Local rough stone, tough iron, and blue wood products are paired with pure cotton and linen fabrics, creating a balance between cold and warm elements. The incorporation of green plants adds a touch of garden style to the space, highlighting the unique tropical rainforest ambiance of Xishuangbanna.

Spanning a total area of 860 square meters, the Tea Yard is a testament to the designer's commitment to respecting local culture and the natural environment. Traditional architectural patterns and a variety of local vegetation have been seamlessly integrated into the interior, recreating the fusion of a tropical rainforest and a traditional teahouse.

The Tea Yard, located in the ancient city of Manjinglan, faced several challenges during its renovation. The designer successfully addressed issues such as opacity, closure, and aging structures by breaking away from tradition while preserving its essence. The result is a harmonious symbiosis of culture and architecture.

Designed to evoke the nostalgia of a traditional childhood courtyard house, the Tea Yard also incorporates the lush tropical rainforest vegetation of Xishuangbanna. The first floor features three space boxes surrounding a central vegetation yard, offering a versatile space that can be used as a small square or a reception living room. The second and third floors continue this combination of space boxes and landscapes, creating a unique and immersive experience for visitors.

The Tea Yard, designed by Jus Tian, has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2021. This award recognizes the teahouse's outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and contribution to improving the quality of life. With its seamless blend of tradition, nature, and innovative design, the Tea Yard is truly a tranquil haven for tea lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.
