S-oil Total Calendar Illustration: A Fusion of Tradition and Technology

Expressing the Energy of Oil Refinery and Transportation

Kaze Park, a renowned South Korean artist, brings his passion for cars and traditional Korean painting to life in the captivating S-oil Total calendar illustration. Combining art, design, and technology, this unique project showcases the diverse environments and elements associated with oil refining, while paying homage to the means of transportation that rely on refined oil.

Park's journey with S-oil Total began when the South Korean oil refinery approached him for a calendar-making project. Drawing inspiration from his love for cars and his own illustrations, Park embarked on creating a visually stunning calendar that would capture the essence of oil refining and its impact on transportation.

The S-oil Total calendar illustration stands out with its meticulous attention to detail and unique concept. Park skillfully depicts various components of the refining process, including different vehicles, cityscapes, natural spaces, and even seasonal weather conditions. Each illustration is a testament to the vital role that refined oil plays in our everyday lives.

What sets this calendar apart is the fusion of traditional and digital techniques employed by Park. Using a traditional Korean brush, he creates texture and depth in his illustrations, which are then scanned and transformed into digital data. With the help of Adobe Photoshop, Park adds basic and detailed colors, infusing the artwork with the touch of a traditional Korean brush.

The S-oil Total calendar illustration was produced in Photoshop using the RGB CMYK color mode. The final artwork measures 400mm x 610mm, making it a visually striking and practical art calendar.

Park's vision for this project goes beyond mere aesthetics. He believes that the collaboration between S-oil, a prominent South Korean oil company, and Total, a global oil refinery company, holds immense value. Refined oil powers various means of transportation worldwide, enhancing our lives and serving as a vital energy source. Park's illustrations beautifully capture this energy and its impact on our surroundings.

The S-oil Total calendar illustration project began in August 2016 and was released in Seoul, South Korea, in January 2017. Throughout the design process, Park conducted extensive research, focusing on the association between realistic objects and transportation. The result is a visually captivating calendar that not only tells the story of oil refining but also celebrates the role of transportation in our lives.

Recognized for its exceptional design and innovation, the S-oil Total calendar illustration received the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2021. This award honors well-designed creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and technical excellence to contribute to a better world.

With his S-oil Total calendar illustration, Kaze Park showcases the power of art, design, and technology to tell a compelling story. By blending traditional Korean painting techniques with digital graphics, he creates a visual masterpiece that celebrates the energy and impact of oil refining on transportation.
