Lone: Revolutionizing International Shopping with an Authentic Social Experience

Lone is an innovative mobile app that aims to revolutionize the world of international shopping by offering users an authentic social shopping experience. Designed by Xi He, this app connects travelers, buyers, and Lone shoppers to create a global community of authentic product discovery and purchase.

Lone addresses the challenge of limited knowledge and access to authentic products from around the world. With increasing demand for international shopping, people have a higher willingness to buy unique and creative products. However, it is often difficult for individuals to find and purchase authentic items from small boutiques or even street vendors in different countries.

With Lone, users can discover and buy authentic products from anywhere in the world. The app functions as an ecosystem where travelers can discover unique items during their journeys and post them on Lone. Buyers can browse through these product cards, search for specific items, and make purchases directly through the app. Lone shoppers, located in the specific area, will then help connect the dots by sourcing and shipping the products to the buyers.

The app utilizes native technologies, including camera-based features for scanning products, augmented reality to showcase items, and Touch ID for secure payments. The user interface was designed in Sketch and animated with Adobe After Effects, while illustrations were created in Adobe Illustrator.

Lone offers a seamless and intuitive user experience, with emotionally engaging interaction patterns. The app caters to three types of users: travelers, buyers, and Lone shoppers. Travelers can easily switch between roles, allowing them to both discover and purchase products. This flexibility enhances the overall user experience and encourages active participation within the community.

The design process for Lone began in February 2018 in Rochester and was completed in October 2020. However, the project remains an ongoing journey with continuous updates and user feedback. Throughout the development process, extensive user research was conducted, including audience mapping, analysis, surveys, interviews, and multiple rounds of user testing. This research ensured that the app was user-centered and effectively communicated with individuals from different countries and cultures.

Lone has received recognition for its outstanding design and functionality. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Mobile Technologies, Applications, and Software Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges Lone's well-designed, practical, and innovative approach, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The app integrates industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and provides fulfillment and positive experiences for users, contributing to a better world.
