Forest of Art: A Fairy Tale Landscape in the City

Fu Chu Hsu's Award-Winning Design Marries Art and Nature

In the heart of a bustling city, a unique landscape design project, the 'Forest of Art,' emerges as an artistic oasis. This innovative project, conceived and executed by renowned designer Fu Chu Hsu, is a testament to the harmonious blend of art, design, and nature. Inspired by the classic fairy tale, 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,' this project is a refreshing urban retreat that has earned the prestigious Silver A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2021.

Strategically located at the intersection of three parks and adjacent to a school walkway, the 'Forest of Art' is a 2000 square meter project that stands out in the urban landscape. The design's unique properties lie in its ability to transform a corner space in a downtown area into a serene and artistic haven. The project's planning and execution involved a careful consideration of the space's limitations and potential, resulting in a design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The project's realization involved a unique approach to space planning. The second floor of the interior space was designed with a loop layout, allowing visitors to wander through the space and be immersed in the view. This design decision not only enhanced the spatial experience but also created a strong connection with the design's core concept.

One of the key features of the 'Forest of Art' is the incorporation of planter boxes arranged in an arc around a sky walkway, which connects with the arbors. This design element adds depth and dimension to the building, creating a multi-layered planting scheme that complements the arc sky walkway at the entrance. The result is a streetscape that resembles a forest, seamlessly connecting with the skyway and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the project.

The 'Forest of Art' project posed several design challenges, primarily due to the limited landscape space. To overcome this, the design team cleverly turned the building 45 degrees to face the school on the diagonal side, thereby freeing up space for the landscape. This ingenious solution not only addressed the spatial constraints but also added an interesting visual element to the design.

Completed in October 2020 in Taichung, Taiwan, the 'Forest of Art' is a testament to Fu Chu Hsu's innovative design approach and artistic vision. The project's unique blend of art, design, and nature has not only transformed a corner space in a downtown area into a tranquil oasis but also earned it the prestigious Silver A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2021. This award is a recognition of the project's outstanding design expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
