Revolutionizing College Enrollment: A Service Design Approach

Shantou University's Innovative Collaboration Platform Streamlines Admission Process

Shantou University has revolutionized the college enrollment process with a unique service design approach. The project, which won the Silver A' Meta, Strategic and Service Design Award in 2021, aims to eliminate student anxiety during the enrollment period by fostering collaboration across university departments.

The project's inspiration stemmed from the need to transform the university's work department into an organic aggregate, allowing different departments to collaborate and solve problems together. This innovative approach enables the university to connect with students in a sustainable way and provide the services they need.

What sets this project apart is its ability to enhance cross-departmental collaboration through a redesigned work model. The project helps students familiarize themselves with the campus through various connections and services. For the department, the project results include the definition of value goals, work mode, and interactive function design. Services for students include consulting services, admission reception services, guidance services of peers, and admission brochures.

The design realization technology comprises an online collaboration platform and offline space. The online platform allows executives to jointly add and modify the module information they are responsible for, as well as statistics data to complete their work efficiently. The offline space provides tools such as journey maps to assist in decision-making.

The project, which started in 2019 and finished in 2020 in China, was based on the method of service design. The research objects included two main groups: students and staff from multiple departments. The project faced challenges such as information islands and lack of effective communication. However, it successfully overcame these obstacles, marking the first time a service design approach was implemented at a university.

The design team comprised Ruiqi Yao, Zhenzi Pan, Ran Han, Zhongduo Jiao, Qize Wong, Zihao Chen, and Sherky. The project's success is a testament to their hard work and innovative thinking, proving that service design can indeed revolutionize traditional processes in a university setting.
