Shenzhen Transsion Holdings: A New Model for Office Buildings

Aedas' Innovative Design Wins Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award

Shenzhen Transsion Holdings, a revolutionary office complex designed by Aedas, redefines the traditional concept of office buildings. The design, inspired by the concept of a 'cloud hub', is a symbol of openness, cooperation, and sharing, reflecting the corporate spirit of the client's corporation. This innovative architectural design has earned Aedas the prestigious Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021.

The Shenzhen Transsion Holdings project is a 54,970 sqm commercial complex located in Nanshan District, Shenzhen City, China. The complex includes a 150m high-rise tower and an ancillary retail podium. The client envisioned the project to be not just an iconic landmark, but also a cultural multi-level communal space of the region. This vision aligns with the client's corporation, a leading tech company advocating the concept of openness, cooperation, and sharing.

The concept of a 'cloud hub' was introduced to break the traditional approach of verticality on tower facades. This concept creates intermediate open spaces that foster variety and interactions between staff and offices. The design features three shared functional hubs: a public hub at the podium level, a leisure hub in the middle, and a business hub on top. Featured boxes are inserted into the building at different levels, each interlocking and juxtaposing to create contrasts of varied scales and between open and exclusive expressions.

The 'Public Hub' podium integrates public serving functions. A vertical circulation was formed by the viewing stairs at the inside of the facade. This 3-dimensional public space links the building function in different floors and promotes the infiltration between the urban interface and the building. The tower creates 3-dimensional green spaces, blurring the boundary of indoor and outdoor. This design encourages more horizontal communication and sharing spaces in the 'Cloud Hub' of the tower.

The design process involved harmony, ecology, publicity, and interaction as key concepts. The aim was to create green spaces three-dimensionally to blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor areas. This approach creates more common spaces and encourages interaction and communication throughout the tower. The project started in September 2019 and is expected to be completed in December 2021.

Shenzhen Transsion Holdings is a testament to Aedas' innovative architectural design. The design team, led by Leo Liu and comprising Mindy Ouyang, Jianji Wen, Kay Zhang, and Chris Leung, has successfully created a unique, high-tech, and futuristic building form that embodies the spirit of openness, cooperation, and sharing. This design has rightfully earned Aedas the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award, a recognition granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology.
