Giuliano Ricciardi, a renowned designer, has redefined the concept of packaging with his design, Risetta. Inspired by the need for a packaging solution that is not just a container but also a useful object for store furnishing and product presentation, Ricciardi has created a design that is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing.
Risetta is a unique blend of the past and the future, combining traditional materials like plywood and cork with cutting-edge laser cutting technologies. The design features a 45-degree folding technique that allows the use of a single sheet of plywood, ensuring the perfect squaring of the box. The cork supports, fitted into the ventilation holes, facilitate the setting up of temporary exhibition spaces, making Risetta an innovative, eco-friendly, and versatile solution.
The production process of Risetta involves laser cutting for the plywood shape and CNC machine for the cork supports. The design specifications include a width of 500 mm, a depth of 300 mm, and a height of 260 mm. The design is also marked by regular holes that serve to ventilate the contents and accommodate the cork supports. These supports not only function as ground support but also allow the side-by-side and overlapping of the modules, enabling the setting up of a sale point.
The Risetta project started in February 2020 and was completed in April 2020. It was nominated at the Rilegno Contest 2020. The design research focused on eco-sustainability, with the aim of transforming a simple fruit box into an exhibitor. The use of floor supports as a plug-in to place the Risettas side by side and overlapping them in various positions allows the setting up of temporary and non-temporary sales points, and also enables reuse in the home.
One of the main challenges in the design process was finding the right technology and materials for the production and assembly of Risetta components. Laser cutting and plywood were identified as the most suitable. The second challenge was to find a system that would exploit the ventilation holes of Risetta to distance it from the ground, avoiding the stagnation of liquids, and to allow the overlapping and side-by-side placement of several boxes for setting up a store. This task was entrusted to the cork supports, an elastic and waterproof material.
Risetta has been recognized for its innovative design and has been awarded the Silver in A' Packaging Design Award in 2021. The design is a testament to Giuliano Ricciardi's creativity and commitment to sustainable design solutions. With its modern, captivating design, Risetta is not just a packaging solution, but a piece of art.
