The artistic concept behind "Japan in Winter" is to introduce viewers to the best masterpieces of art from different countries. This season, the focus is on the animated prints of renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. Inspired by Hokusai's prints and the Year of Japanese Culture in Russia, the project aims to provide an immersive experience that combines art and weather forecasting.
The selection process for "Japan in Winter" involved choosing the most spectacular winter artworks from various angles and sizes. These selected prints were then meticulously rotoscoped in Photoshop, ensuring that every detail was captured. Based on the chosen works, storyboards were created to plan camera movements and compositions for the animated characters.
Using After Effects, the selected characters were brought to life through animation, following the storyboards and a specific timing to align with the weather forecast. The result is a visually stunning and informative weather forecast that seamlessly integrates the beauty of Hokusai's prints.
The "Japan in Winter" animation project is presented in Full HD video format with a duration of 2.45 minutes. It was developed between November 14th and December 30th, 2020, in Moscow.
This innovative design has been recognized for its excellence and received the Iron A' Design Award in the Movie, Video, and Animation Design category in 2023. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. "Japan in Winter" stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world through the fusion of art and technology.
