Junone: A Sculptural Lamp Redefining Luxury Lighting

Exploring the Boundaries of Design with 3D Printing

Just like the shift from tempera to oil painting during the Renaissance empowered a new generation of painters to express their creativity in unprecedented ways, the shift from subtractive to additive manufacturing enables us today to explore shapes that could simply not be fabricated before. With Junone, designer Alan Aronica aims to challenge the dogma of how a lamp should look like and educate the public on the novel possibilities that 3D printing can offer to create a new generation of luxury goods.

Junone is an exploration of the contrast arising from the juxtaposition of voluptuous organic shapes with sculptural tensions inspired by the aeronautical industry. Conceived to be architectural and yet suggesting a dynamic sense of directionality, Junone is made exclusively with 3D printed nylon infused with glass and 3D printed steel infused with bronze. This unique combination of materials gives the lamp a distinctive aesthetic and a tactile quality that sets it apart from traditional lighting designs.

What sets Junone apart is not only its striking design but also its limited availability. The lamp is part of a special series limited to only 10 pieces, each of which is numbered and comes with a label of authenticity. This exclusivity adds to its allure and makes it a coveted piece for collectors and design enthusiasts.

The realization of Junone is made possible through advanced 3D printing technologies. Multi Jet Fusion 3D Printing using PA12 Nylon 40% Infused with Glass Beads is employed for the lamp's body, while Binder Jetting 3D Printing using Stainless Steel 40% Infused with Bronze Matrix is used for the structural elements. This combination of materials and manufacturing techniques ensures the lamp's durability and precision.

With dimensions of W:200mm x D:220mm x H:210mm, Junone is a compact yet impactful lighting solution. It features a 5 Watt LED bulb that emits a warm and welcoming light without heating. The lamp is operated through a traditional ON/OFF switch and powered through a 4.5m power cord, allowing for flexibility in placement and easy access to power sources.

Alan Aronica's meticulous research and attention to detail are evident in every aspect of Junone's design. From the initial digital modeling to the hand assembly and testing, every step is carefully executed to ensure the lamp's functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Recognized for its excellence, Junone has been awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2021. This accolade acknowledges the lamp's well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities that meet professional and industrial requirements. Junone's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world of design.

With Junone, Alan Aronica has pushed the boundaries of design and demonstrated the transformative power of 3D printing in creating unique and luxurious lighting solutions. This sculptural lamp is not only a functional object but also a work of art that adds a touch of sophistication to any space.
