The inspiration behind the Milano System stemmed from the fast-paced urban lifestyle. The team at Modula Milano recognized the need for a versatile backpack that could adapt to a variety of activities without the need to overfill or carry multiple bags. This led to the creation of the Milano System, a 100% made-in-Italy modular urban backpack that can be customized by combining different modules, such as the Milano Backpack, Laptop Organizer, Anchor, Everyday Block, and Packing Block.

The Milano System stands out from other designs due to its unique properties. The backpack is characterized by its modularity, allowing users to easily attach and detach different modules from the main pack. It is made with functionality in mind, featuring two compartments, three inner pockets, and one front pocket for easy access to essentials. Moreover, the Milano System is fully water-resistant and boasts a 180-degrees opening, providing ultimate organization and convenience.

The design process involved the use of cutting-edge technologies and high-quality materials. The backpack is made from CORDURA fabrics, known for their resistance to abrasion and tears, and Lorenzi fabrics, which are waterproof and highly resistant. The design also incorporates Hypalon, a high-strength fabric used for the attachment of future accessories and modules, and Fidlock, an innovative magnetic locking hardware.

The Milano System was designed and produced in Milan, Italy, from January 2020 to March 2021. The design team, which includes Alex Feriotto, Sebastian Pinotti, Nevena Pavloska, Dario Ruggeri, Gaia Venuti, Beatrice Cavalli, and Chiara Penasa, faced several challenges during the design process. These included finding an intuitive and easy-to-use modular system and building a supply chain entirely based in Italy that balanced quality and price. Despite these challenges and the lockdowns due to Covid-19, the team successfully completed the project.
