Revolutionizing Office Spaces: D525 Barcelona by Sanzpont Arquitectura

A Sustainable Transformation of a 70s Building into a Modern, Eco-Friendly Workspace

Introducing D525 Barcelona, a unique office building project by Sanzpont Arquitectura, which beautifully combines sustainability, restoration, and modern design. This project is a testament to the transformative power of design and innovation, as it breathes new life into an old building, making it an icon of sustainable architecture.

Derived from the concept of sustainable renovation, the D525 Barcelona project is a remarkable example of how existing structures can be repurposed to reduce environmental impact. The design inspiration came from nature's smooth and flowing forms, breaking away from the traditional rigid vertical and horizontal lines. The result is a building that stands as a pure and iconic element in the urban landscape.

What sets D525 Barcelona apart is its commitment to sustainability. The building, owned by Inmobiliaria Colonial, has been designed with materials that respect the environment and a comprehensive environmental quality management plan. The building has met all construction requirements to achieve LEED Gold certification, a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership.

The building's design incorporates a main façade of large windows for natural light, defined by unique photocatalic krion 3D modules that purify the air. The south facade features photovoltaic louvers that protect from the sun during warmer months and generate clean energy, enough to power 1562 points of light running 4 hours a day for 35 years, avoiding the emission of 196 tons of CO2.

D525 Barcelona is a 7,000 square meter project with 10 levels of offices and networking areas. All levels overlook a roof garden on level 1, designed as a natural green space with low-consumption native plant species. This not only provides an extra insulation layer but also helps to minimize environmental impact, improving the microclimate and mitigating the heat island effect.

The project faced several structural challenges due to the original building's age and previous use for housing. Despite these challenges, the Sanzpont Arquitectura team successfully transformed the building into a modern, sustainable workspace. The new headquarters symbolizes Naturgy's transformation, housing its corporate services in a more sustainable, flexible, and collaborative environment.

The D525 Barcelona project is a testament to the power of sustainable design and innovation. It not only provides a functional and aesthetically pleasing workspace but also contributes to environmental sustainability. This project is a shining example of how design can transform old structures into modern, eco-friendly spaces, setting a new standard for office buildings worldwide.
