Le Xu's Innovative Design Wins Silver A' Furniture Design Award 2023

The inspiration behind Cross Furniture stems from the realistic challenges faced by the post-90s population. Small living spaces, frequent relocations, and a preference for fast, convenient online shopping have necessitated a new approach to furniture design. Le Xu's solution is a versatile piece of furniture that can be easily disassembled and reassembled, thanks to its clever mortise and tenon structure, a traditional joinery technique.

Cross Furniture stands out for its simplicity, elegance, and functionality. Made from a combination of solid wood, apple Leatherwear, acrylic, and cement, the design is both sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. The flat design concept not only reduces transportation costs, making it ideal for online sales, but also allows for easy assembly, adding to the product's appeal.

The manufacturing process involves wooden cut and setback plane, using materials like solid wood, apple Leatherwear, acrylic, and cement. The dimensions of the stool and coffee table are 320mm × 320mm × 450mm and 550mm × 550mm × 550mm respectively. The design is easy to assemble, offering users the fun of assembly and the satisfaction of a solid, durable product.

The project, which started in September 2020 in Hangzhou, was completed in September 2022. The most challenging part of the design process was the structural design. Le Xu innovatively designed a new self-locking function of mortise and tenon structure, which realized the disassembling role and firmness of cruciform furniture. This perfect integration of structural form and contemporary aesthetics is a testament to Le Xu's creative prowess.

Le Xu's Cross Furniture was awarded Silver in A' Furniture Design Award in 2023. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
