Grayscale 2: A Calm and Elegant Residential Design by Spark Wu

A Unique Space Focusing on Grayscale Tones and Open Living

Inspired by the client's desire for a grayscale-themed space, Spark Wu, a renowned designer, created Grayscale 2, a residential design that combines modern aesthetics with functionality. This two-bedroom, two-room layout showcases the designer's expertise in utilizing limited square footage to create a calm and elegant living environment.

The strength of Grayscale 2 lies in its innovative approach to public space. The client emphasized the importance of a spacious family area while not requiring a dining table. To meet this need, Spark Wu divided the public area into a living room and a sidebar, providing flexibility for dining and other activities. The designer employed various techniques such as hollowing, suspension, staggered color blocks, moru glass, and iron inserts to create a modern and visually appealing space within the limited square footage.

One of the standout features of Grayscale 2 is the use of a calm and restrained grayscale color palette, which creates a quiet and elegant ambiance throughout the space. The designer carefully selected imported art paints, sheet tiles, hexagonal tiles, aluminum-framed doors, rock panels, and oak-stained veneers to realize the design concept.

The technical specifications of Grayscale 2 further enhance its unique qualities. The entire space exudes a calm and astringent atmosphere, starting from the grayscale lacquer on the walls. The TV cabinet in the public area is built-in, seamlessly integrating the TV into the overall design. In the foyer and dining area, inlay woodwork cabinetry with hollow and suspension techniques lightens the space, adding a sense of airiness. The designer's use of grey tones creates a rich layer of changes and extensions, adding depth to the space.

Grayscale 2 is characterized by its stable tone, open space, storage cabinet, smoky gray tones, and ample natural lighting. The design team, led by Spark Wu and Jerry Wu, meticulously considered every aspect of the space, ensuring a harmonious and functional interaction between the different elements. The absence of partitions and clever field transformations contribute to the seamless flow and utilization of space.

Grayscale 2 was completed in August 2020 in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City. The design was based on thorough research and analysis of the client's preferences and living habits. By incorporating open space planning, light, and hand-made paint, Spark Wu successfully transformed the new house into a unique and textured living environment that perfectly aligns with the client's vision.

Grayscale 2 has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements. Grayscale 2 stands as a testament to Spark Wu's talent and dedication to creating spaces that provide fulfillment and contribute to a better world.
