Landscape Impression: A Tranquil Retreat in New Taipei City

Award-Winning Design by Jau-Siang Li and Chia-Wei Tsai

Having a living space that provides inner peace as a getaway from the city is a dream for many. The Landscape Impression project, designed by Jau-Siang Li and Chia-Wei Tsai, is a newly-constructed roughcast house that offers just that. By incorporating the open-end method and utilizing transparent glass partitions, the designers have created a space that is both bright and serene.

The key focus of this project was to create a sense of transparency through time and space. The open-end method was applied to the public area, allowing for increased brightness and visual connectivity. Additionally, thin and delicate metal shelves were used in the entryway, not only providing a functional storage solution but also dividing the zone from other areas.

The interior of the Landscape Impression project showcases a unique blend of materials and design elements. The television wall is made of grey-white marbles, representing landscape imagery and adding a touch of light luxury. To avoid a dull and heavy atmosphere, glass partitions are strategically placed to create visual transparency. Metal sidebars, hallowed cabinets, and carefully selected lighting fixtures contribute to the overall elegance of the space.

Various materials were used throughout the project to create a rich and changing spatial vibe. The walls of the study feature eco-friendly mushroom rock veneers, while three-dimensional grained tiles adorn the dining room walls and study partitions. These design choices not only add visual interest but also contribute to the overall tranquility of the space.

The Landscape Impression project is a 45-ping space equipped with four bedrooms, drawing inspiration from ink-splashed landscapes and metaphysical aesthetics. The use of marbles on the television wall creates a sense of mottled texture and light luxury. The open-end method and glass partitions ensure smooth traffic flow, while ample cabinets provide ample storage space for the residents.

The project, which started in June 2020 and finished in February 2021, is located in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Extensive research was conducted to ensure that the design elements and materials used in the project were carefully selected and thoughtfully implemented. Overcoming the challenge of incorporating dark colors without weighing down the interior, the designers created a comprehensive and harmonious space that exudes elegance and peace.

The Landscape Impression project has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that showcase ingenuity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

Step into the Landscape Impression project and experience the coziness and romance of ink-splashed landscapes. This unique design transports you to a tranquil retreat, where the past and future seamlessly blend, offering a truly immersive and peaceful living experience.
