Expobay Office: A Redefinition of Office Space

idodesign.cn's Innovative Design Wins Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award

The Expobay Office, designed by idodesign.cn, is a 600 square meter project that started in May 2020 in Shenzhen and was completed in July 2021. The design team, led by Chief Designer Min Liu and Assistant Designer Jing He, aimed to redefine office spaces. They sought to demonstrate how technology can harmonize with nature, how privacy can coexist with publicity, and how cautiousness can blend with casualness.

The design's unique properties lie in its deeper and broader interpretation of space. Upon entering the lobby, visitors are greeted with a green glass box hanging over a gray slate wall. This box is an extension of the hall on the second floor, symbolizing the design's understanding of space. A large tree in the lobby converses with the green glass box, adding a touch of nature to the modern office environment.

The project was realized using terrazzo, imitation terrazzo anti-fire board, green tempered glass, and stainless steel. The design team created dramatic scenes and courageous space forms, aiming to provide an outdoor working environment within the office. Three cubic glass boxes serve as the front-hall, meeting room, and management offices, offering a real yet illusory experience through their frosted glass.

The design team faced the challenge of altering people's stereotypes of office spaces. They tackled this by creating a flowing internal space, keeping the gray concrete texture of the building for the ceiling, floor, and walls. The open staff office and relaxation area occupy some of this "outdoor" space, with an undulating hillside beside the open office adding a unique element to the design.
