Yan Ni Teong, the talented designer behind the Purple Orchid ring, found inspiration in her own balcony garden filled with a variety of flowers and plants. Being from Malaysia, where orchids are a favorite and popular flower due to the hot and humid weather, Yan Ni Teong was captivated by the beauty of a blooming purple orchid one day.

Studying the flower's petals, stem, color, and pattern, Yan Ni Teong decided to express her creativity and innovation by transforming the orchid into a piece of jewelry. The result is the Purple Orchid ring, a unique and eye-catching design that captures the essence of an orchid garden.

What sets the Purple Orchid ring apart is its adjustable size feature, allowing it to be worn on different fingers. The ring showcases various shapes of Amethyst in the flower petals, creating a dynamic and visually appealing design. In the center of the flower, there is a Pearl, adding an elegant touch. Another Pearl with a delicate butterfly sits alongside the main gems, giving the impression of a flower and bud floating between two fingers.

The Purple Orchid ring is hand-fabricated using Sterling Silver Rhodium plated and is meticulously set with Amethyst and Pearl in different cuts, such as Marquise, Oval, Emerald, and Round. The combination of the purple Amethyst and the off-white Pearl creates a striking contrast that adds to the ring's overall vibrancy.

With a weight of 6.99 grams and a size of US 5, the Purple Orchid ring is designed to be comfortable and practical to wear. Its width of 31mm and length of 29mm perfectly balance the size of the ring with the intricate design, ensuring a visually appealing and wearable piece of jewelry.

The Purple Orchid ring project started in April 2019 and was completed in July 2019. Throughout the design process, Yan Ni Teong conducted extensive research on different types of purple orchids, studying their patterns and colors to create an authentic representation in her jewelry design.

One of the creative challenges Yan Ni Teong faced was assembling the different shapes of stones into the flower petals while maintaining a balanced and visually pleasing design. The adjustable function of the ring also required careful consideration of size factors and the thickness of the metal to ensure practicality and durability.

The Purple Orchid ring has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.
