Villa Troy: A Contemporary Trojan Home

Designing a Mythological Inspiration

The architect Renos Constantinou bestows the house with identity, alluding to the owners’ names: Paris and Helen. Mythology provides inspiration for designing a contemporary Trojan home, the Villa Troy.

The Villa Troy, designed by Renos Constantinou, is a unique residential house that draws inspiration from Greek mythology. The architect chose to bestow the house with identity, alluding to the owners' names: Paris and Helen. The mythological tale of Troy serves as the foundation for this contemporary design.

The design of Villa Troy stands out with its irregular L-shape arrangement of living spaces, nestled amidst a cluster of outdoor areas, including verandas and a garden. The open-plan ground level accommodates the lounge, living, and dining rooms, with a double-height void at the vestibule serving as the core around which these integrated parts of the house develop.

One of the key features of Villa Troy is its emphasis on natural ventilation and lighting. The strategic placement of the building enhances the flow of fresh air and allows ample natural light to flood the interior spaces. Large openings establish a seamless connection between the inside and outside, creating a harmonious blend of nature and architecture.

The design of Villa Troy incorporates materials that pay homage to the ancient city of Troy. Stone cladding on the façade, as well as on the enclosure at the back of the property, hints at the walls of Troy. Metal, another significant material from that time, is applied in various components of the design. The façade features five ornamental brackets with an angular form reminiscent of Trojan war spears. The original metal door and vertical metal railings shape the home enclosure, adding a touch of authenticity to the design.

Inside Villa Troy, the focal point is a striking fireplace that dominates the ground level. Acting as a divider between the vestibule, living room, and dining area, the fireplace features a glass enclosure on three sides, allowing the hearth to be visible from all adjacent spaces. The base of the fireplace is clad in ceramic tiles that emulate fair-face concrete, a material also used on the dining room wall, featuring portrait paintings of Paris and Helen. The use of fair-face concrete ceramic tiles throughout the ground floor adds a sense of luxury and elegance to the design, complementing the overall aesthetic.

With a total internal covered area of 340 square meters, Villa Troy is designed to cater to the needs of a family of four while embodying contemporary aesthetics. The timeless materials used in the design ensure its longevity and enduring appeal.

Renos Constantinou, along with his team members, Angela Constantinou and Andreas Constantinou, successfully realized the vision of Villa Troy. The project, which started in January 2019 and was completed in September 2021, showcases their expertise in architectural design, interior design, project management, supervision, lighting design, and structural design.

Villa Troy is not only a testament to the creativity and skill of the design team but also a sustainable and energy-efficient home. The installation of photovoltaic panels allows the house to become a zero-energy efficient dwelling, contributing to a greener future.

The unique design and attention to detail exhibited in Villa Troy have garnered recognition and accolades. The design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022, a prestigious honor that celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Villa Troy stands as a testament to the integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings to its inhabitants while contributing to a better world.
