Pride Of The City: A Captivating Public Art in Maple Garden

An Expression of Nature's Beauty and Harmony

The oasis of cities is like a mirror to the soul. Facing the greatness of nature, people learn to be humble. Only by being in nature can human beings be truly spiritually prosperous. Moved by the sunlight shining on the leaves among the birds playing, the colorful flowers swaying by the lake, the changing scene of seasons being awakened in the park, this is the beautiful life in the city.

Pride of the City, a stunning public art installation in Maple Garden, Taichung City, Taiwan, captures the essence of nature's beauty and the harmonious coexistence of all living things. Designed by the talented artist Jung-Mei Wou, this sculpture stands as a spiritual symbol in the heart of the city, enriching the culture, art, and life of Taichung City.

What sets Pride of the City apart is its unique location in Maple Garden, a precious urban oasis and ecological park. The lush greenery of the garden not only provides a habitat for animals and plants but also serves as a sanctuary for people to rejuvenate their spirits. The sculpture, with its soaring birds, represents the cycle of the four seasons and the interconnectedness of all living beings.

Made using stainless steel forging technology, Pride of the City stands tall with dimensions of 4300mmx2620mmx4250mm. Its aerodynamic shape and structural mechanics ensure its resilience against wind loads, while its intricate design evokes a sense of lightness and grace.

Positioned at the center point of three intersecting paths, this public sculpture serves as a landmark, guiding visitors into the heart of Maple Garden. It invites everyone to embrace nature and illuminates the nights in the park, creating a captivating ambiance.

Completed in November 2014, Pride of the City has become a permanent fixture in Maple Garden, captivating visitors with its artistic expression and profound connection to nature. It is a testament to the power of public art to inspire, uplift, and create a sense of belonging.

Jung-Mei Wou, the visionary behind this remarkable design, conducted extensive research on wind load optimization to ensure the sculpture's stability. The result is a masterpiece that seamlessly integrates art, science, and design.

Pride of the City has received recognition for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade celebrates designs that demonstrate resourcefulness, technical excellence, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.

With Pride of the City, Jung-Mei Wou has created a captivating public art installation that celebrates the beauty of nature and the harmony of all living things. It serves as a reminder to embrace our connection with the natural world and find solace in its wonders.
