Infinite: A Revolutionary Cafe Design by Kris Lin

Blurring Boundaries and Shaping Diverse Lifestyle Experiences

The 'Infinite' cafe, covering an area of 600sqm, is a unique blend of a cafe, book bar, and a hub for creative trendy goods, targeting younger customers. The design takes inspiration from the infinite symbol ∞, abstracting the circular layout structure of the space along the center to the left and right sides. This approach weakens the right-angle relationship, injecting emotional value into the space and enhancing the perception and experience of future customer groups.

One of the key features of this design is the highly recognizable ceiling after metal spray painting of its disc-shaped decoration. Its basic form, derived from the infinite symbol ∞, resembles cell division, forming an ever-changing combination that is full of vitality and interest.

The project, located in Quzhou, started in January 2021 and was completed in May 2021. The block where the project is situated is undergoing a transformation in its urban pattern. This change inspired the design of this cafe, from the abstract artistic conception of a cocoon transforming into a butterfly, to the concrete form of a butterfly, and finally back to ∞. This transformation process extends from spiritual perception to the whole spatial experience.

One of the challenges that Kris Lin and Anda Yang faced was capturing the popular gene of the younger generation customers and strengthening the social attribute of the space. They successfully combined the concepts of a trendy entertainment block, cafe, and book bar culture, creating a utopia for the future social activities of generation Z.

The 'Infinite' cafe design was awarded Silver in the A' Hospitality, Recreation, Travel, and Tourism Design Award in 2022. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
