Yueyun Teahouse: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Architecture

Designed by Zhubo Design, this award-winning project marries the Fibonacci spiral with modern design techniques

Located between the mountains and the sea, the Yueyun Teahouse is a testament to the beauty of natural rhythms and industrialized communities. This unique structure, designed by Zhubo Design, draws its inspiration from the Fibonacci spiral, a perfect representation of the golden ratio in nature.

The project, which started in 2018 and was completed in 2021 in Xiamen, is a perfect example of how modern techniques can be used to create an orderly architectural form. The design team, led by Project Director Yang Weizhong, used the Fibonacci spiral to create a spatial skeleton for the project, introducing, circulating, and integrating external space. The final shape of the building resembles a conch, a nod to the coastal environment of the project.

One of the unique features of the Yueyun Teahouse is its use of a curved full glass curtain wall, which not only provides visual transparency but also allows sunlight and air to penetrate the building, integrating it with nature. The covered bridge, formed from metal panels, stands out in the natural garden and becomes the visual center.

The design process was not without its challenges. The team wanted to make the helix as thin as possible, and when the spiral fell to the ground, it had a complicated relationship with some of the surrounding projects. The calculation of the steel structure and the split joints of all the aluminum plates, including the shape, were simulated in the full mold. 1000 aluminum plates of different specifications were spliced together in the whole building, and the beam position was precisely controlled to achieve the final effect.

The Yueyun Teahouse is not just an architectural marvel, but also a community center where residents can listen to the sound of the sea, watch the clouds rise, and feel the wonderful gift of nature. This design was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.

As a public service building and exhibition center, the Yueyun Teahouse is a shining example of how architecture can be used to create spaces that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and in harmony with nature. This project is a testament to Zhubo Design's commitment to creating designs that are unique, innovative, and respectful of the environment.
