Coach the Coaches: A Football Guidebook by Natasha Mozz

Award-winning design that revolutionizes football training

The complex structure of the book defined its design. The content was organized into similar blocks of information differ by data and composed on pages like a lego game. Every visual tool was used to help work with the book during the training session: the bold color palette helps to navigate through the sections, the length of the plate on the side of each page indicates the subcategory, etc. The football field grid along with technical instructions serves as underlying base for visual style.

The Coach the Coaches project, led by renowned designer Natasha Mozz, has introduced a groundbreaking football guidebook that is set to transform the way trainers work with young footballers. This innovative design, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022, offers a unique approach to presenting training programs and instructions.

The guidebook, developed for 10-14-year-old footballers, was created to assist trainers in implementing the training program in their everyday work. The main objective was to convert the initial text-heavy materials into clear and concise instructions, while ensuring easy navigation through different sections of the book.

One of the standout features of this design is the use of infographics instead of traditional text. By presenting information visually, the guidebook becomes more accessible and engaging for both trainers and players. The bold color palette and the football field grid-inspired visual style further enhance the user experience, making it easier to understand and follow the instructions.

The Coach the Coaches guidebook is not only a practical tool but also a work of art. The careful arrangement of information blocks, reminiscent of a lego game, adds a playful element to the design. Additionally, the length of the plate on the side of each page indicates the subcategory, allowing trainers to quickly locate the relevant information they need.

The project, which began in January 2016, was a collaboration between Adidas, the German Football Association, and the Russian Football Union. After months of meticulous design and development, the guidebook was unveiled at a press conference dedicated to the launch of the "Coach the Coaches" program in October 2016.

Natasha Mozz's design has received widespread acclaim, earning the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Print and Published Media Design category. This recognition is a testament to the design's outstanding creativity and ingenuity, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of football training.

The Coach the Coaches guidebook is a game-changer in the world of football training. With its innovative use of infographics, intuitive navigation, and visually appealing design, it empowers trainers to deliver effective and engaging training sessions, ultimately enhancing the development of young footballers.
