Amazon's New Office: A Testament to Brand Identity and Sustainable Design

DB and B Pte Ltd's Innovative Office Design Bags Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award

DB and B Pte Ltd's innovative office design for Amazon's new Singapore headquarters at Asia Square is a masterful blend of brand identity, collaborative workspaces, and sustainable design principles. The project, which spans three floors and covers 9,300 square meters, is a testament to the tech giant's commitment to fostering a sense of community and purpose among its employees while also prioritizing environmental sustainability.

The design was inspired by Amazon's strong brand identity and the desire to create a shared sense of purpose and community among its employees. The office features internal corridors adorned with environmental graphics that narrate Amazon's leadership principles and history. Collaboration hubs and touchdown spaces are scattered throughout the floor plan, empowering employees to choose their workspace based on their tasks.

What sets this design apart is its emphasis on flexible and hybrid working arrangements. The office boasts fifty collaboration spots and five large meeting rooms for discussions of various nature. Bespoke environmental graphics are thoughtfully featured on wall spaces to advocate Amazon's brand culture and create a sense of identity.

The design team prioritized the use of environmentally-friendly materials in line with Amazon’s global sustainability efforts. The office features carpets made from sustainable materials, low VOC paint, recycling bins, and zoned lighting for energy efficiency.

The project, which began in February 2021 and was completed in July 2021, was a collaborative effort between Ricardo Celis and Victor Wong. The design team conducted extensive research into Amazon's brand culture, leadership principles, history, and branding elements to formulate the design concept.

One of the key challenges faced by the design team was the creative use of wall spaces. The team overcame this by using environmental wall graphics to add character to corridors and office spaces. These graphics not only advocate the brand but also inject fun and interaction into the workspace.

The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022, a testament to its innovative and remarkable design that showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. This project is a prime example of how design can be used to amplify a company's brand identity while also promoting a sustainable and collaborative work environment.
