Vintage Sport: A Unique Weather Forecast Animation Project

Combining Vintage Artistry and Winter Sports

In this animation project, Alexey Borisov embarked on a journey to create visually appealing weather forecast animations for the Kultura TV channel. Drawing inspiration from vintage postcards, the designer aimed to capture the artistry and nostalgia of these timeless pieces while showcasing the excitement of winter sports.

The Vintage Sport project stands out with its unique approach to weather forecasting. Instead of using generic graphics, the Kultura TV channel updates its weather forecast every season with masterpieces by iconic artists from around the world. Each artwork is carefully selected to reflect the season and will not be repeated for over 18 years, ensuring a constantly evolving visual experience for viewers.

Utilizing a combination of After Effects and Duik animation tools, as well as Cinema 4D for some characters and locations, Alexey Borisov brought the vintage postcards to life in a digital format. The animations feature a wide variety of winter sports, showcasing the thrill and elegance of activities such as ice hockey, skiing, and figure skating.

The Vintage Sport project's intro video has a duration of 2 minutes and 47 seconds, with a resolution of 1920x1080 and a frame rate of 25 fps. The meticulous attention to detail and technical precision ensure a seamless viewing experience for the audience.

Alexey Borisov, the sole designer behind this project, created all the necessary assets, including character designs, background art, and props. Using software like After Effects, the designer employed various animation techniques such as keyframe animation, tweening, and rigging to breathe life into the graphics.

The Vintage Sport project was realized in Moscow, with a timeline spanning from December 2021 to January 2022. The dedication and expertise of Alexey Borisov resulted in a visually stunning and engaging weather forecast animation that captivates viewers and introduces them to the world of winter sports through the lens of vintage art.

This exceptional design project, Vintage Sport, was recognized for its excellence and innovation. It received the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Movie, Video, and Animation Design category in 2023. This award acknowledges the project's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world through its fulfillment and positive impact.
