Lightwist stands out among other floor lamps with its dynamic and transformable structure. When the light is turned on, the lamp gradually twists itself, changing its entire shape. This bionic movement, combined with the warm lighting, creates a captivating atmosphere for users. The design aims to bring a sense of life and movement into indoor spaces, enhancing the overall ambiance.
The development of Lightwist involved extensive research on transformable structures and geometry. Chia-Yu Yeh explored the potential of kaleidocycles and kinetic structures to create the best possible design for a transformable floor lamp. The result is a visually stunning piece that seamlessly combines art and functionality.
Creating Lightwist presented several challenges for the designer. The process required numerous paper prototypes to find the optimal transforming structure. Additionally, scaling down the prototypes to the final product size posed technical difficulties in terms of materials, mechanics, and software coding for the automatic transformable structure. However, through perseverance and innovation, Chia-Yu Yeh successfully overcame these obstacles to bring Lightwist to life.
The dimensions of Lightwist are 400mm in width, 400mm in depth, and 880mm in height. The lamp is made using a combination of paper, metal, and Arduino software, which allows for the smooth and precise transformation of the structure.
Lightwist was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2023. This prestigious accolade recognizes the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements. Lightwist is respected for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world through its fulfillment and positive impact.
Lightwist is not just a floor lamp; it is a work of art that brings a unique and captivating experience to any space. With its dynamic transformation and warm lighting, Lightwist creates a distinctive atmosphere that enhances the lifestyle of its users.
