Lines Geometry: A Tranquil and Minimalistic Residential Design

Creating a Unique Visual Experience with Geometry and Texture

The hustle and bustle of the city are isolated from the house. The designer uses eco-friendly plaster on the ceiling and walls to create a minimalistic space with a tranquil atmosphere that calms the mind. The axis of the corridor divides the field invisibly, and the contrasting color tones form different attributes of gray and white, creating a unique visual experience.

The residential design project, named "Lines Geometry," by Zong Ying Chen, is a testament to the power of simplicity and geometry in creating a tranquil and visually captivating living space. The designer's inspiration for this project came from the desire to create a sanctuary that isolates the chaos of the city and promotes a sense of calmness and serenity.

One of the unique properties of this design lies in the use of eco-friendly plaster on the ceiling and walls. The plaster is hand-painted in a way that resembles clouds, creating a sense of texture that adds depth and character to the space. The layers of plaster, meticulously applied, give the impression of order and tranquility, further enhancing the overall calming atmosphere.

Zong Ying Chen's design approach involves a careful play between straight lines and curved lines, single lines and arrays, and geometric lengths. By incorporating these elements, the designer creates layers and uniqueness that make the space visually captivating. The contrast between the different attributes of gray and white adds to the visual interest, making every corner of the house a delight to behold.

The realization of this design involved the use of various technologies and techniques. The TV cabinet and black iron chased display shelf, for example, were designed with suspension and volume contrast, adding a touch of elegance and functionality to the space. The dolomite brick texture, resembling clouds, creates a sense of visual continuity, while the bookcases in red, yellow, and blue, combined with a black iron shelf, evoke the spirit of Piet Mondrian's iconic paintings.

One of the notable features of this design is the integration of storage solutions into the overall aesthetic. The storage room, cleverly hidden within the space, not only serves its practical purpose but also doubles as a display wall for the entrance, showcasing the homeowner's personal style and taste.

The interaction within the design is carefully considered to ensure a seamless and harmonious experience. The black shelf below the TV cabinet, for instance, not only provides storage for books and accessories but also extends to the doorway, serving as a shoe chair. The dining table and desk, designed with lines and geometry, contribute to the overall integration of the space.

"Lines Geometry" was completed in August 2021 in Taiwan, and its design was driven by extensive research on simplicity, lines, and geometry. The designer aimed to create a space that brings calmness and tranquility through simplicity while utilizing lines to outline the visual sense of the field. The hand-painted plaster layers, resembling clouds, were carefully applied to provide a sense of texture and order.

The design of "Lines Geometry" was not without its challenges. The use of white as the base color, combined with the white and black of the cabinets and the vibrant colors of the iron shelf, required careful consideration to achieve a harmonious and visually pleasing result. The combination of geometry, suspension, penetration, and simplicity was employed to create a beautiful and harmonious style.

Natural materials, such as warm wood, gray and black, and white stone tiles, were used to bring a sense of nature into the space. The texture of the stone resembles the rhythm of the sea, adding a touch of serenity. The lightweight and suspended design of the vista shelves, cabinets, bookshelves, and shelves contribute to a sense of lightness and airiness.

Lighting plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall ambiance of the space. The abundance of natural light during the day, combined with soft lighting from the ceiling and laminate at night, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The dining room lighting fixture, in particular, stands out against the white walls, adding a touch of elegance and becoming a highlight of the space.

The exceptional design of "Lines Geometry" has been recognized and awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of the design, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life through the incorporation of art, science, design, and technology.
