Transforming Traditional Spaces with Innovative Design and Material Use

The H Home, designed for a family of five, is a testament to the designer's creativity and ingenuity. The design team removed the wall separating the dining room, kitchen, and living room, creating a connected public area for the family to enjoy. The use of special woven metal mesh sliding doors distinguishes the boundaries between the areas, making the facade movable and enriching the visual, functional, and meaningful aspects of the space.

The design team utilized a variety of materials to create a diverse and textured atmosphere. The public area features steel stone flooring, while the private area boasts chamfered hand-scraped wood flooring. The ceiling is adorned with hand-scraped special mineral paint, and the facade is a combination of stainless steel woven mesh, moru glass, and white marble slabs. The furnishings, including the copper (oxidized) chandeliers, add a touch of elegance to the space.

The H Home spans a total area of 165.2 square meters, comprising three bedrooms, two living rooms, and two bathrooms. The design team installed sliding doors to separate the spaces without disrupting the facade of each area. The public area has a casual theme, with no clear distinction between the areas, reflecting the aesthetics of daily life.

The design process involved overcoming two main challenges. The first was the narrow space caused by the facade separating the living room and kitchen. The second was the integration of various materials to create an artistic atmosphere in dark colors. The design team successfully addressed these challenges, resulting in a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

The H Home is a perfect example of how innovative design can transform traditional spaces. The use of different materials and the redefinition of space boundaries have resulted in a design that is not only visually appealing but also functional and meaningful. The project is a testament to Hung Yu Chen's creativity and ingenuity, and it's no surprise that it was awarded the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023.
