PlantC: A Mobile App for House Plant Care

Introducing PlantC, a mobile app designed by Yanming Chen, specifically for house plants. With most people having plants in their homes or offices, it's easy to forget to give these quiet little friends the attention they need. PlantC aims to bridge that gap by providing users with a platform to identify unfamiliar plants, learn about their unique characteristics, build profiles for their own plants, and customize daily reminders to take care of them.

What sets PlantC apart is its user-friendly interface and interactive features. After onboarding, users are prompted to create a profile and add their plants. The homepage offers a simple and clean design, displaying registered plants' room conditions and watering levels. Users can also use the app's camera feature to scan plants and obtain detailed information about their breed. If a user has registered plants in their profile, PlantC sends notifications when the plants need attention.

The design process for PlantC involved extensive research and user testing. Large-scale surveys and focus groups were conducted to validate the need for such an application and to study user preferences for the UI interface. The result indicated that simplicity and ease of use were the highest-ranked features. The chosen color scheme of #52A54E green and #FDFDFD white was also well-received for its refreshing and light qualities.

PlantC was designed for both iOS and Android systems, utilizing tools such as Adobe XD, Illustrator, and Photoshop to create low-fidelity and high-fidelity visual designs and prototypes. The design documentation was stored in Google Drive, and user testing and iteration were identified as essential steps for achieving an optimal user experience if the app were to be launched in the real world.

Recognizing its excellence, PlantC was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Mobile Technologies, Applications, and Software Design category in 2023. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.
