Shanju is not just a restaurant; it's a brand experience that aims to promote traditional Chinese healthy food culture while reshaping the spirit of the times. The design is inspired by the local nature of the project, using stone as a diamond, symbolizing the harmony of water and stone. The irregular surface of the stone, eroded by wind and rain, records the traces of nature, allowing the interior to blend seamlessly with the natural environment.
The restaurant's unique features extend beyond its design. In addition to serving healthy soup, Shanju also provides a peaceful space for city inhabitants to communicate and relax. The space exudes a modest and elegant literati atmosphere, with scenes framed by potted vignettes, original stones, and ink murals conveying a Zen state. The large area of plain white complements the floral ware, with a pine branch standing on the wall, adding to the tranquil ambiance.
Walking through the winding cabinet gives the impression of entering a calm private home, where the bustle has subsided and your body and mind turned home. The space structure retains a sense of strength and wooden grille looks exquisite with its bamboo shadows and warm light. This design is a testament to Yirong Yang's belief that community spaces should have both a commercial side and a warm core.
Located in Foshan, China, the project covers an area of 154.45 square meters and was completed in May 2022. The design process involved overcoming several challenges, including showcasing the business's role in the community as an expert in healthy cuisine while also blending in with the surroundings. The brand's visual impact on guests is improved by means of deconstructing the traditional Chinese character Yun, so that it looks like the clouds in the sky turned into raindrops, scattered on the ground.
Shanju is a shining example of how design can enhance traditional culture and promote healthy living. It's a testament to Yirong Yang's innovative approach to design and his commitment to creating spaces that not only serve a functional purpose but also enrich the community. The Silver A' Design Award is a well-deserved recognition of this remarkable design.
