Shanghai Zhongzhou Huaxi: A Blend of Elegance and Tradition

The design draws its inspiration from the elegant atmosphere of nature. It creates a serene and vibrant space where one can observe the movement of clouds, the flight of birds, and the play of light and shadow. The design is a testament to the Oriental preference for using wood in construction, a tradition that spans dynasties and signifies family prosperity.

Shanghai Zhongzhou Huaxi stands out for its unique properties. It uses wood, stone, and special glass to create a space that is both modern and traditional. The design covers a total area of 1000 square meters, offering a spacious and comfortable environment for its visitors.

The design was realized with the help of HORIZON MA and PLAN. The team used strips ceiling sequence and intertwined details to create a visual focus and a warm atmosphere. This approach weakens the concept of space, highlighting the focus of negotiations and linking emotions, which is the real theme of the design.

The design was completed in July 2017 in Shanghai, China. The design process involved extensive research on wood grades and the relationship between wood and people. The team faced the challenge of using design techniques to create a unique space that is not self-proclaiming or vulgar. The goal was to rebuild a living space in the city that is both modern and traditional.

The lobby, the first space guests enter, is inspired by Chinese traditional courtyards and gardens. The design draws on the concept of the yard in the layout of the plane, implying the structural layout of the courtyard and the Huishui building in Beijing. The design uses the traditional charm of the courtyard layout, the layers of progressive, in the vertical axis of the formation of the three corridors of the multi-level layout.

The design of Shanghai Zhongzhou Huaxi is a property of MYP DESIGN (HK) LIMITED. It has been recognized for its creativity and professional excellence, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, technical characteristics, and artistic skill.
