Child's Happy Tree: A Design Masterpiece by Chih-Ching Chen

Exploring the Innovative Design that Won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award

Chih-Ching Chen's 'Child's Happy Tree' is a unique design that has transformed a space into a child's fantasy kingdom. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, and the realization technology behind this award-winning design.

Chih-Ching Chen's design, 'Child's Happy Tree,' is a delightful blend of architecture and imagination. The design is inspired by the playful innocence of childhood, with light blue and white lines forming a silhouette of a wall that gently embraces children into the space. Animal wall stickers lead children into a fantasy kingdom, while honeycomb and bubble-shaped upholstery stimulate their senses and understanding of shapes.

The unique properties of this design lie in its color scheme and space theme. Natural sunlight spills into the room, creating a sense of blue sky, white clouds, and fresh green grass. The design's focal point is a large tree structure that grows from the ground to the ceiling, providing a comforting presence for children. A small hole under the trunk serves as a secret base, liberating children's imagination and encouraging them to share secrets with the animals.

The design was realized using innovative technology. Lights and mirrors were strategically placed to create starlight, providing children with a sense of wonder and exploration. The design encourages adults to bend down and engage with children at their level, promoting mutual understanding and kindness.

The 'Child's Happy Tree' design spans 120 square meters and was completed in July 2016 in Taiwan. It has been recognized for its creativity and innovation, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and that evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

Chih-Ching Chen's 'Child's Happy Tree' is more than just a design; it's a space that nurtures children's imagination and growth. It's a testament to the power of design in shaping our experiences and interactions, and a shining example of how architecture and design can transform a space into a place of joy and wonder.
