Reviving Classic Architecture: Elysium by B5 Design

A Majestic Blend of Past and Present in Interior Design

Unveiling Elysium, a royal majlis design by B5 Design, inspired by the grandeur of historical European palaces and the contemporary aesthetics. This article explores the unique properties, realization technology, and design specifications of this award-winning project.

When B5 Design embarked on the Elysium project, their vision was to simulate antiquity in a unique way, blending design, colors, and raw materials to create a mix of the present and the past. The design was inspired by the study and analysis of some of the world's most iconic buildings and palaces, such as the Elysee Palace in France, Palazzo Madama in Italy, and Abdeen Palace in Egypt.

Elysium's unique properties lie in its traditional interior design, inspired by the French style of the 17th and 18th-century European decor. This timeless style exemplifies elegance and comfort. The main elements of design, in terms of function and shape, have been taken into account to give a sense of harmony. The choice of furniture, lighting, and decoration was meticulously made to suit the design.

The realization of Elysium involved a lot of sketches and drawings using AutoCad, followed by the stage of choosing the colors, materials, lighting, and furniture to create mood boards using Adobe Photoshop. The design was then brought to life through 3D modeling using Autodesk 3ds max.

Elysium's technical specifications include a width of 9400 mm, a depth of 19600 mm, and a height of 12000 mm. The walls are coated with G.R.G and classic decorative molding with a heavy texture wallpaper. The flooring features luxury water jet marble and stone vintage design with a customized color Italian marble. The ceiling is a 12mm thick suspended KNAUF gypsum board with G.R.G moldings.

The design reflects the juxtaposition of different ages in the form of contrast between them to highlight the beauty of each other. The project started in February 2018 in Egypt and finished in October 2018. The research generally includes the idea of "revival of classical architecture", aiming to recreate classical architecture once again, but in a different way in terms of the materials used and the shape in general.

Elysium faced several design challenges, including the height and how to ventilate space, which led to the work of exits for ventilation of the walls and hide them aesthetically so as to perform the function and verify the shape. The design was awarded Platinum in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, recognizing world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing.
